What is a 5S audit?
A 5S audit scores how well a workplace lives the five pillars of workplace organisation — Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain. Each pillar is rated on a simple scale and the total reflects the maturity of the area. Regular audits make the standard visible, drive accountability and keep gains from slipping back, which is why 5S is often the foundation of a lean transformation.

What are the five S's?
Sort (remove what is not needed), Set in order (a place for everything), Shine (clean and inspect), Standardize (make the standard visible) and Sustain (keep the discipline). The first three are physical; the last two make the gains stick.
How often should we audit?
A fixed, frequent cadence — weekly or monthly — works better than occasional deep audits. The trend over time matters more than any single score, because Sustain is the hardest pillar.
